No. You can order it directly, the same as any other dog food. It's vet-formulated, but it isn't a veterinary diet you have to get through the vet.
How is it different from a veterinary hydrolysed diet?
The principle is the same. Both break the protein down so the immune system stops reacting to it. The differences are how you buy it and what it costs.
A veterinary diet is dispensed through a clinic, usually after a consultation, and is priced accordingly. Ours sits below the big premium brands and arrives at your door.
My dog is already on a diet from the vet. Should I switch?
If it's working, stay on it. A diet your vet chose for a diagnosed problem is doing a job, and swapping it out on your own can undo weeks of progress.
If you'd like to move to a maintenance food, raise it with your vet. If they give you the go-ahead to move off the veterinary diet, they can help you plan the change.
What if my dog has never been diagnosed?
Plenty of dogs are itchy or unsettled without a formal diagnosis. A clean, single-protein food is a reasonable thing to try.
