Grain, beef, dairy, gluten, wheat, fillers and artificial colours. The only animal protein in it is one hydrolysed chicken protein.
Why leave those out?
The most commonly reported food triggers in dogs include beef and dairy, and they turn up in a lot of everyday dog foods. Taking them out means one less thing to rule in or out if you're trying to work out what your dog is reacting to.
Grain comes out for the same reason. Peas, sweet potato and tapioca do the job instead.
Fillers and artificial colours are out because they do nothing for your dog.
What is still in there?
Two things people sometimes ask about:
Rosemary extract, a natural antioxidant.
TBHQ, an antioxidant that stops the fats going rancid over the bag's 18-month shelf life.
Is it suitable for a dog with a chicken allergy?
If your vet has diagnosed a reaction to chicken specifically, talk to them before switching. Hydrolysed protein is designed to get past that recognition, but if you have concerns then check with the vet who knows your dog.
Otherwise the 2kg sample at $19.99 is the straightforward way to find out how your dog does.
